The name “Seitan Limania” translates to “Satan’s Harbour” in English, and it is believed to have originated during the Ottoman occupation of Crete. The name likely refers to the bare rocks surrounding the bay.

The Akrotiri Peninsula has been inhabited since ancient times, with evidence of settlements dating back to the Minoan period, around 3000 BCE. The Minoans, an advanced civilization of the Bronze Age, left behind remarkable archaeological sites on Crete, such as the Palace of Knossos, which is located near the Akrotiri Peninsula.
